Expand Your Wardrobe For Free
How do we do this you ask? Personally, I borrow things from my mother for long periods of time. There is actually a plan behind this, and I'll explain. Sharing is caring, and it is underrated. Since there are so many items in our wardrobe that we never wear, why not let our friends or family borrow them for 3-6 months? When we get our clothes back, we either feel like we are seeing a long lost friend, or we realize that we can live without it and make room for something new.
One of my personal favorites is pulling a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and exchanging clothes via mail to loved ones in faraway places. If you don’t want to risk the loss of a beloved item, find something at a thrift shop. You can make up fun games about “customizing” the item as it travels around (using sharpies, scissors, bedazzling it etc.).
You can also just straight up borrow (what siblings call stealing). If it is mom, cousin, roommate, there might be at least a scarf, a sweater, or some shoes that can work. Remember to ask them first :)
Maybe you don’t trust your friends and family with your belongings (understandable). Instead, have a clothing swap party with the pieces you are ready to let go of. Invite your people over (I won’t tell them you don’t trust them) and have everyone bring items to swap/share. You can recycle the leftovers using this guide.
